OHNY and EverGreene Architectural Arts present
Conservation, Restoration and New Design of Architectural Art & Ornament: A Balancing Act
February 21, 2012
Morning Session (8:30-10am)
Evening Session (6:30-8pm) SOLD OUT

Join us for a look at EverGreene's design, mural, conservation and plaster studios. The tour will include a look at current work in progress, a discussion of the design process and examples of studies, drawings, color boards, renderings, models, samples, attachment system design and mockups.
Conservation, restoration and design of new architectural elements are anything but straightforward. Multiple paint campaigns, partial repairs and building modifications can obscure the original aesthetic of a building’s interior. As projects are developed, the balancing act between 21st century needs and a commitment to historical authenticity can be treacherous. Only through a well-informed, deliberate process can the project proponents ensure that the outcome is aesthetically in balance with the building’s past while embracing its future.
EverGreene has designed, conserved, restored, replicated, and implemented artwork in countless iconic buildings across the country. Here in New York EverGreene projects include: Empire State Building, The Plaza Hotel, St. Francis Xavier Church, Thurgood Marshall Courthouse City Hall, most of the Broadway Theaters, etc.
Architects seeking AIA CEU credits will earn 1.25 credit hours for attending.
Learning Objectives for CEU credits include:
- Understand the practical steps involved in assessing existing interior architectural finishes, artwork and ornament
- Learn about the collaborative process of evaluating what to conserve, restore, replicate or add to a historic space
- Understand the creative and material resources that go into design and production of artwork and architectural ornament
- Gain a sense of the coordination and timeframe needed for field investigation, studio design and production, onsite treatments and installation of new elements.
Municipal Art Society Urbanists receive $10 off the cost of registration. Click here to join MAS or the MAS Urbanists to receive a discount on this program as well as benefits throughout the year.

Tickets to this event are non-refundable. Should you not be able to attend, the full price of unused tickets may be treated as a donation to openhousenewyork and is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
